in Dutch we have a word called 'voorpret' and I am not aware of a direct translation for it in English. too bad, because it is one of my favorites. I will try to explain it. voorpret is about enjoying an event, day or moment long before it is happening. it is about creating those stomach butterflies and a smile on your face when you think of that particular day, event or moment. the literal translation would be 'pre-fun'. you typically experience it before weddings, parties, holidays... do you get the idea?

since I enjoy voorpret a lot myself, I wanted to do something in advance of create 'n date to get my guests in the mood and enjoy the voorpret with me. but how?
while I was busy organizing the event I thought it would be nice if everyone was recognizable through name or blog name tags. and of course for a creative event like this, the badges had to be good looking, colorful, unique and preferably handmade.
the idea was to have everyone make their own badges in advance. I put together little packages with the paper invitations I showed you earlier. and I crossed my fingers the guests would love the idea too...
like I said before, I hardly took any pictures during create 'n date last Sunday. but I promise you, the results were amazing! I am very happy it turned out so well. the ladies really made such a great effort putting their beautiful badges together, got creative with the given material, added their own touches, made small and larger badges... for now I can only show you my own little badge with a crochet edging. but there's more to come.

  1. Oooo...little piles of supplies! Probably one of the most beautiful sights in my opinion. Haha.

And thank you for sharing "voorpret." I feel like now that I know the name of it, I'll be more aware of it while I experience it. :)

  2. What a great idea!! I can't wait to see more pics!!

  3. En voorpret had ik ook!! Zeker toen ik de uitnodiging ontving. En meteen aan de slag ging om een kleine "Villa kakelbont" te maken, van het stofje wat erbij zat.
Het was zo leuk om te doen!!
    Groetjes Corine

  4. Love 'voorpret' & those invitations! They look wonderful.

  5. Hoi Maaike,

    Liefs, Maureen x

  7. Hee! How much fun! I believe in English we would use the word anticipation to describe voorpret! It is the feeling that makes every special event or occasion even more magical! ^_^

  8. I think this is such a cute idea!

Groetjes Bregje

  10. I love these pictures. It looks like such fun putting together all those invitations. I am with Everyday Peacocks on this one, I would probably use the word anticipation. At first I was thinking of the word "fore play" but has more of a hmmmm, sexual tone. Ooops! Not really suitable for creative play... well I guess you could be sexually creative too... And now I am getting way out of subject here. Ha ha ha. Blushing in front of the screen.
However... the anticipation of this event was just as good as the event. you made a terrific job with those badges kits. You did a fabulous job with EVERYTHING! You are the queen of events. And people keep asking me when and if there will be a next one. We hope and cross fingers. I'll write you privately about that.
Lots of love from a sunny Switzerland today

  11. English most definitely does need a word for pre-fun. I'm sure I would use it a lot. I love the idea of everyone making their own badge in such a unique and crafty way. Can't wait to see more!
