Knitting For a Change

just so I would not forget how to knit, I started a little project on two needles. no, just kidding. I don't think I will ever forget how to knit. it was just easier to work these three threads on knitting needles instead of a crochet hook.

inspired by the current copper trend, I combined a copper embroidery thread together with a variegated yarn in copper-like colours and an organic cream white cotton. using just a simple moss stitch that started with 3 stitches and increased by 1 every row, until 22 stitches wide. I love how mixing yarns results in new textures, colours and 'fabric'. the variegated yarn will change into a bright teal in the end, I am excited to see how that will work out with the copper embroidery thread. that itself is giving just a little festive spark to the mixture, not too much. just the way I like it. this little flag-like piece you see in the pictures will hopefully end up becoming an indoor scarf to spark up my outfits, let's say for a nice dinner with the husband. I should make a deal with him: I finish the scarf, you make dinner reservations :). he sometimes reads my blog, so I'd better hurry and knit a few more rows…

Knitting Blossoms

today. I got my 'big' camera out once again. and by out I mean literally out. the blossoming treas in our new neighborhood are so beautiful, it's a challenge to picture their beauty. there is something majestic about grown trees, don't you think?

framed knitted samples for a dear customer who ordered the Joppe blanket knitting kit, but wanted to get it in a different and gender neutral color combination. which one would you pick?

Finished Blanket

finished. the giant baby blanket, measuring about 70x90 cm, 28x35" is off the needles and on it's way to the newborn son from our dear friends in The Netherlands.

I have said it before and I will say it again, I loved knitting this blanket. the joy of starting a new color block and see how it comes along is great. it is bold in color, a classic and at the same time a very modern blanket. there is a very likely chance I will make more of this type of blankets!

and I am excited to tell you that the pattern for the Joppe blanket is now available for you here and there is the option to get a yarn~pattern kit here.

enjoy!

Double the Yarn, Double the Fun

an out take of my contribution to the latest Gatherings Magazine; a little cloth, potholder, doll blanket or what your imagination sees in it, made from yarn scraps. I knitted this piece with double strands and I must say I love how fast it comes together and the endless possibilities in color variety it gives us.

if you are planning to make something similar yourself, keep in mind that you want to use about double the needle size too. I have been experimenting with crocheting double strands as well and am quite pleased with the results, will show them to you soon. have you tried working with double strands on your hook or needles lately? if not, my suggestion is you grab a cup of your favorite tea or coffee together with your yarn scraps, a decent sized hook or needles and give it a go. I would love to hear about your experience!

Cushions and The Blanket

now for real: a peak into our new home. I actually finished these wood-cushions just before we moved. I had a feeling they would look good here, and it is always nice to see the images you have in mind become reality. it's very heavy cotton Ikea fabric, closed with large faux leather buttons.
the polka dot cushion is a ready made one from Ikea as well.

also on the couch, the baby boy blanket in progress. I am nearly there. to be honest, I love this blanket so much that it will be hard for me to part with it. luckily I know it is going to a very good and loving home. the simpleness of this blanket, it's colors, the heavy and soft feel... I can highly recommend starting a similar project.

Getting Organized

hello there! now that we have picked up the final bits and pieces from our former home, it is time to get organized in the new home. the best part of moving if you ask me.
I shipped some card sets from the shop last week, actually the Tea Time set is sold out at the moment. but the Birthday and Flower sets are available for you. perfect cards to share the Spring feeling with family and friends!

in the middle square a little more of a peek into our new home, I need some bright flowers on our dining table as you can see. also, we took Floyd for a first coffee date and although he was a little too excited in the beginning, he settled soon after that and we enjoyed a latte or two. I definitely see more of those fun dates for the 3 of us in the future. last but not least, I picked up the large knitted baby boy blanket. and it indeed is coming closer and closer to being finished...

a very happy new week to you

Blanket Progress

oh boy, this blanket is getting BIG. I don't know if I can call it a baby blanket anymore, haha. part 4 of 5 has started, and there are of course a few ends to sew in. but it is going quite fast. I am determined to knit a few rows every day here on the couch. after breakfast and after dinner. and clearly it works. both for the progress of the blanket, and for clearing my mind. I even have a notebook by my side when I am knitting!
