Sewing class #7

well hello there!

a warm welcome to the new followers and visitors

I am overwhelmed by the lovely comments on the give-away

you make my day girls!

now back to the sewing class

I decided to combine crafts this time ~ sewing and knitting to be exact

in one piece, a cushion

(or pillow, what is the difference? native english speakers, help me out here)

but I must say

I underestimated this project just a little tiny bit...

... well ok, that was a huge understatement

knitting the front piece was the easy part for me

but sewing the knitted part to a fabric; to the border; to the jeans at the back; in all straight lines

took me hours and hours, a lot of thinking and the first broken needle on the machine

so again, I learned a lot

and am again happy with the result!

the jeans at the back is a used jeans from the boyfriend, with marks from renovating the house in Sweden

don't you love the combination of this roughness with the sweet little flower border in the middle?

I put it on a chair to give you an idea of the size of it

it measures 50x50 cm without the border

next week: sewing class #8, the last class of the course

any good advice on what project to start this last class? challenging sewing ideas? new techniques for me?

I would love to get some inspiration from you!

about finishing my pillowcase

I forgot the piece of fabric that I planned to use at the back ~ oh no

but my dear teacher was so sweet

because it was my birthday this week

she gave me this flowerbordered piece to finish it

doensn't that look absolutely fabulous next to the boyfriends' shirt?

on top of that

she had a little birthdaygift for me: Harriet's vintage needlecase and beautiful ribbon

I would like to finish this rainy-Saturday-morning-post with some lovely pastels



because today in our home

we're gonna party like....

... yes indeed: it's my birthday!

Grandma

boyfriends' grandma moved

to a smaller home for the elderly

quite a step for her ~ and the family

she gave us four boxes of things that did not fit in her new home

I love that

and will post about the items a couple of times

today is the first: all whites, grey and blue

with a touch of pink-red and green

Sewing class #5

a fresh Sunday morning

with great daylight to take pictures

~ smile ~

I finished the cosmetic bag I started in class last week

not that easy, including the lining and zipper, but I did finish it

and again: learned a lot

the challenge of the week

is this WIP pillowcase that measures 40x60 cm

out of some left over pieces and an old sweater in the middle

I am happy about the look of it so far

now let's see if I can attach the back to it this week

more about the crochet blanket (almost finished!) and some boyfriends'grandma- items in a few days

we have a lot of white flowers in our home

I love whites

and my Aalto vases

do you know the design?

Iittala uses it for a lot of purposes now

but I stick to the original: vases

~ I really do love winter, but the thing with blogging and winter is the lack of daylight to take pictures the way I like to... aaargh. So you have to wait until the weekend to see my new found item on the street, the WIP on my crochet blanket and some bargain DIY books from the bookstore ~
