in the little series of things I'd like to share from our summer holiday, today we take a peak into the world of Anne of Green Gables. in case you haven't heard of the book series, just like me, here is an introduction from wikipedia:
Anne, a young orphan from fictional community of Bolingbroke, Nova Scotia, (based upon the real community of New London) is sent to Prince Edward Island after a childhood spent in strangers' homes and orphanages. Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert, siblings in their fifties and sixties, had decided to adopt a boy from the orphanage to help Matthew run their farm. They live at Green Gables, their Avonlea farmhouse on Prince Edward Island. Through a misunderstanding, the orphanage sends Anne Shirley.
Anne is described as bright and quick, eager to please, talkative, and extremely imaginative. She has a pale face with freckles, and usually braids her red hair. As a child of imagination, Anne takes much joy in life, and adapts quickly, thriving in the close-knit farming village.
curious to find out a little more about Anne, whom I call Canada's Pipi Longstocking, we visited the house and site where the story was written by Lucy Maud Montgomery. all pictures shown in this post are taken there.
lovers lane and the haunted woods, for those of you who've read the book, they both exist as you can see below paired with matching wallpaper from the house.
I love to share this with you because of the simple and plain, yet to me beautiful design of the house inside as well as outside. the book and how it was written in this environment, teach me how to find inspiration in the surroundings where you live. whether it is to write a book, paint a painting, or crochet a blanket; you don't necessarily have to travel the world to find inspiration. it is always around you, if you take the time to look carefully.
also, while reading the first book I started appreciating Anne's world of imagination and joy, full of adventures. I really believe both brighten up one's life and are needed every so often for a fun factor in this serious world.
