Quilt in Progress

my first quilt turned out quite large ~ to say the least

it almost fits a kingsize bed

I am working on the actual quilting now

machine quilting, piecing the top, batting and back together

I love to see this quilt getting closer to being finished every day

and I am looking forward to lying under it once it is finished

~ smile ~

wishing you a great week ahead and if you celebrate Happy Halloween

BYW and the Silk Scarf

due to my travels I am a little behind in the Blogging My Way class

but it is Fun and Great

one of the things I discovered is Picasa and its ability to make picture lay outs

also, during the course I learned about collages

I realized I did make them with my pictures, but never made them before I took pictures

therefore, with help from the BYW course and Picasa

I am playing around with collages, framing pictures, shadows

and a different way in presenting my WIP: the silk scarf

~

you see the owl from Anthropologie, a try out scrap from quilting class, jingle bells

pencils from Sweden, a shiny shell from a cute store in Vancouver

and vintage writing paper with a cute white ribbon I recently found at a thrift store

the next thing for me is learning how to size these collages...

~ enjoy your weekend! ~

New York #2

sometimes I am surprised how inspirational three days in a different environment can be

the streets in New York in Fall are so pretty

and somehow the fabric and yarn I found at Purl Soho

were matching the environment again

pretty displays at Purl Soho

it was so great to visit their shop and actually see the designs from their blog in real life

and as I unpacked my suitcase

I found out the pictures I took at the huge and amazing Anthropolgie store at Rockefeller Center

as well as the notebooks and bowls I got there ~ are matching the color scheme in this post too

the Botanical Notebook Collection from Rifle Paper Co.

those of you who have been visiting here for a while, may remember I got their 2010 Christmas cards

I simply love the designs by Anna Bond

full of inspiration ~ I am happy to be home again in Canada

though it still feels a little strange, Canada is home now

well, after all we have been here for only a little more than 2 months

for you my sweeties

on New York wrapping paper, the Christmas ornament heart

because you are always here ~ home of creJJtion

and you make me smile, you inspire and encourage me every day

enjoying New York to the max

with gorgeous weather ~ going around the city by bike

and eating delicious Magnolia Bakery cupcakes as a reward

looking up as well

to see all the pretty buildings

and stop by some amazing shops like Purl Soho from the pretty pretty blog Purl Bee

I found some beautiful Fall themed fabric there

and of course

these two Amsterdam girls in New York ~ had to wander around Amsterdam Avenue

My First Quilt

thank you for your sweet comments on the previous post

they are all great projects to work with

this weekend we were invited to go to a cottage near lake Joseph, one of the Muskoka Lakes

two hours North of Toronto

the cottage and it's surroundings are both so pretty

we consider ourselves very lucky to be here

I have to work on my first quilt this weekend

so I took it with me

and it seems to perfectly blend in to the color scheme of the cottage

I am taking the quilt class at the Oakville Sewing Centre

the store is packed with beautiful and inspiring fabrics

the course is taught by Linda, she is an amazing and very professional lady

and wow, she did a lot of pretty quilting and is so experienced, we learn a whole lot from her!

~

we started off with a sampler quilt

12 blocks with all different kinds of techniques

I enlarged it a bit though, to practice more and to make a quilt that fits our couch

the top is now ready to be sewn together

and I signed up for the follow up course to make the batting, the back and the edging around it

I am looking forward to a weekend full of quilting and pretty sights here around the cottage!

and after that... I will fly to New York City for a few days of fun with one of my Dutch friends

yes, Excitement All Over Here!

~ enjoy your weekend ~

WIP times 3

the weather has been so good here in Ontario

I totally forgot to go inside and share my world with you lovelies

so here is a little WIP show of what is going on here

I started knitting a scarf of the silk yarn I found in Vancouver

following the design on the right ~ large colored blocks with a little cream white in between

while enjoying my coffee or tea and the pretty Anthropologie mug

after repainting two thriftstore tables, which I will show later on

I decided to add some floral happiness to the drawers

which was so much fun to work on!

and the drawers are happy and pretty now in the fresh painted sewing table...

...on which I do my homework for the quilting class!

I absolutely love the floral fabric in the second picture

the rest of the quilt fabrics I picked to match it

and I never could have imagined quilting would be that much fun to do, really I love it

again more about that later

~ wishing you a happy new week! ~

Inspiration #2

the second color scheme that inspired me in Vancouver

is very bright with a hint to Fall season

at least that is what these colors look like to my eyes

for those of you who are into bunting ~ this might be an inspiring picture on the left

on the right colorful fruit at the pretty and delicious Public Market on Granville Island

the ever pretty skyline of North Vancouver

and now what to do with these pretty but very small skeins of silk?

several ideas crossed my mind, from crochet flowers to embroidery... what are your thoughts?

~

besides these color matches, another very inspiring event happened today

I was lucky to meet Koralee from Bluebird Notes!

I was all excited and we had the greatest time together, she is such an inspiring and lovely lady

thank you Koralee for this wonderful opportunity, you are the sweetest thing

~ a happy and inspiring weekend to all of you ~
